As we begin the new year, many couples will be considering their next steps;

Or as the inimitable Spice Girls once sang when 2 become 1…

Whether that be moving in together, buying your first property or getting engaged. As well as celebrating these happy events it’s important to remember that there are legal consequences to all of these and that you may wish to consider taking legal advice before committing to the next steps.

While it may be seen as unromantic to consider protective measures in such situations, it can save a lot of heartache and concern in the future should anything go wrong. Sometimes simply having the knowledge and understanding that both you and your partner are on the same page is very reassuring so there will be no nasty surprises further down the line.
