Ryan began studying Politics (with Law as a secondary subject) in 2008 at the University of Strathclyde. After graduating, Ryan decided to undertake the accelerated graduate entry LLB and then the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice (DPLP) to become a solicitor. Ryan completed both the LLB and DPLP at the University of Strathclyde.
Ryan spent the summer between his LLB and the DPLP volunteering for Citizens Advice Direct in Glasgow City Centre. This is a nationwide telephone helpline and charity that provided him with his first experience of providing help and advice to clients. He then spent the following summer before his traineeship doing something similar by volunteering for a local charity called West Lothian Financial Inclusion Network.
Ryan began his legal career at a law firm in November 2018 on 6-month probation before then being offered, accepted, and completing a traineeship there. Ryan became a fully qualified solicitor in June 2018. During his time there he worked in their offices in Bathgate, Bo’ness, and Falkirk, and his workload comprised initially all aspects of Private Client- Estate Planning, Wills, Powers of Attorney, Advance Directives, and Executries. After two years of doing solely private client work, Ryan began practising all aspects of Conveyancing in addition to the aforementioned Private Client work and became a much more well-rounded solicitor.
Ryan has completed the STEP Diploma, which is a globally recognised qualification for expertise in the area of Trusts and Estates.
Desiring a new challenge and wishing to work in Glasgow after having recently moved there, Ryan joined Jones Whyte in October 2022. At Jones Whyte Ryan is a manager in the Bereavement department and responsible for overseeing Scottish Executries. Due to the size and complexity of the estates he administers (and supports his colleagues in administering), Ryan has managed to significantly widen his technical, practical, and legislative knowledge in this area of law. This in turn enables Ryan to provide guidance and comfort to clients as they try to deal with the loss of a loved one and navigate all the legal complexities that arise in such circumstances.
