“Difficult divorce. I approached Mr Charles Brown, the lead of the family law at Jones Whyte in Glasgow, as my divorce become very complicated due also to a criminal charge involved. At my first appointment with him I felt very nervous and insecure. English is not my first language and explaining to him what I was going through was challenging due to my anxiety as well. Nevertheless, from the very first moment I sat at the table with Charles, I was captured by his calm and professional attitude. Not only he is an excellent listener, but his high level of empathy made me feel understood and in safe hands from the very beginning. In a very straight forward and simple way he explained to me the options available. He is always available for follow up and further explanation if needed. He is always in charge, shows initiative and his approach to the legal matter is always factual and objective. I would highly recommend Mr Charles Brown, his valuable assistant Ms Jamie Speirs and the rest of his team.” Trust Pilot Review

Charles is one of the leading figures in the field of family law in Scotland. He has more than 25 years experience in winning cases for clients; with a particular emphasis on those with high value assets and in complex child relocation cases.

He regularly works with clients who are separating or divorcing and who require a high level of knowledge, experience and skill to navigate often complicated situations, including tracing assets and resolving complex financial situations.

Charles represents clients in both the Court of Session and Sheriff Court and has a track record of winning high-value settlements and in keeping families together in a way which most benefits the child.

Aside from his vast court experience, Charles is also expert at helping couples to separate or solve other family disputes through Collaborative Practice; a method which allows clients to avoid court and work through issues together. This practice has a high success rate and for those who find it is the right approach for them, it can often be a rewarding and satisfactory process for all involved.

Charles commands a great deal of respect within his field, with lawyers outwith Jones Whyte often referring cases to him due to his advanced skill set and expertise.

Charles is a member of the Family Law Association, a member of collaborative law body Consensus Scotland and a board member of the counselling organisation Spark. He has also helped to consider draft legislation and made recommendations to the Scottish Government as part of its Family and Child Law sub-committee.
