Charles is a Partner and Head of our Family Law Department.
Having practiced Family Law since 1998, Charles is highly respected in his field.
Having been a Partner in Macnairs Solicitors, Miller Samuel Hill Brown Solicitors and Harper Macleod Solicitors, Charles understands how various other firms and legal opponents approach contentious cases.
Charles is a member of the Family Law Association; is a trained Collaborative Law Practitioner and is a member of Consensus Scotland. He is also an appointed member of the Law Society of Scotland’s Family and Child Law Sub Committee, which considers draft legislation and makes recommendations to the Scottish Government.
Charles is of the view that family law cases should be handled sensitively and provide the opportunity for clients to be closely involved in the process and resolution of matters. He is a strong advocate of alternative dispute resolution which has been used successfully to help avoid costly and time-consuming litigation for our clients.
Charles is aware of the needs of clients and conscious of the emotional aspects involved in family law issues. He is a Board Member of The Spark, which is a counselling organisation, and is a Committee Member of the Glasgow Collaborative Practitioners group. Collaborative Practice is a form of alternative dispute resolution which allows clients to be actively involved in all negotiations.
Possessing particular experience in relation to high-value financial provision, child residence and child relocation cases in both the Sheriff Court and Court of Session, Charles has vast experience in family case law. He has also acted on behalf of a number of children over the years who have sought advice or representation in relation to residence, contact and relocation issues.
