Scottish Parliament Group to Examine Shared Parenting

The idea of is to be examined in more detail in the Scottish Parliament, after the Standards, Procedures and Public Appointments Committee gave its approval to the establishment of a cross party group (CPG) on  the matter.

According to the charity Families Need Fathers Scotland (FNF Scotland), which will be acting as secretariat for the CPG, one the group’s key priorities will be to inform the review into the Children (Scotland) Act 1995 that the Scottish Government has committed to undertaking.

In addition, the registration form notes that its aims are to “identify, examine and promote policy and practice that supports parents in sharing parenting responsibilities”.

It will also look into “how gender stereotypes can be tackled in the pursuit of a better understanding of what we need to do to ensure the best possible childhood and most promising adult life for Scotland’s children.”

“2018 is going to be a big year for the development of family policy in Scotland, not least the promised review of the 1995 Children (Scotland) Act which will refresh our assumptions about what we mean by making Scotland the best place for children to grow up,” said Ian Maxwell, national manager of . “We are delighted to take on the administrative support tasks of the group.
